News Round-up: Cher's New Tour

Cher on tourAs we now know, Cher will embark on a new tour in September. Little is currently known about the tour; we have a start date; three thoroughly confirmed vague concert locations; a new opening song; and minor details about the "magic" set.

Cher's last tour, her lenghy 'Living Proof: The Farewell Tour', ended in 2005. It took place supposedly to support her 2001 album 'Living Proof'. Ever since that release, Cher fans have been waiting for a new studio album from the star but got a whole lot more than expected when Cher began hinting at the possibility of a new tour in support of a 2012 album.

Then the tour was confirmed!

Cher recently revealed which track would serve as the opening song to her new concerts. Usually in her concerts, this spot is reserved for a hit from someone other than herself, such as Gregg Allman's 'I'm No Angel' or U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'. However, she revealed it to be a remixed version of 'You Haven't Seen The Last of Me' - the Diane Warren-penned ballad that she belted out in the 2010 movie 'Burlesque'. Her other song from that film, 'Welcome to Burlesque', will also feature in the tour. According to Cher, she will replicate the film's performance of the song onstage.

Cher's best-selling hit, 1998's 'Believe' (which has always served as an encore since it's release), has also been given a spot in the tour, as is the case with her 1989 somewhat signature hit 'If I Could Turn Back Time'. How do I know? Well - could you imagine a Cher concert without them?

'I Found Someone', which has been featured in every Cher tour since its release is likely to be featured. The same goes for 1989's 'After All'. More recent hits 'Strong Enough' and 'Song For The Lonely' are also likely contenders for spots on the tour as Cher has previously stated that the tracks are two of her favorites to perform. Plus the former is one of her most popular hits and the latter can be sung to represent her 'Living Proof' album. 'The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)' should definately be performed in at least the European dates due to its success there.

It's unknown how many tracks from her new album will be sung in her upcoming concerts. The most songs that Cher has ever performed in a tour to support a new album is six; during her 'Do You Believe? Tour', Cher performed six songs from 'Believe' (five if you do not count 'We All Sleep Alone'). For much of the time, 'Living Proof' had just one song featured during the 'Living Proof: The Farewell Tour', namely 'Song For The Lonely'.

Cher has stated that this may be the greatest album of her career - in that case, she may want to showcase it by performing many tracks from it during the tour.

One last note about the setlist: Cher usually has a spot in her concerts reserved for a ballad. If the new album contains one, it may fill the spot. If not, then we may see a return of one of the ballads she usually performs such as 'The Way of Love', 'Love Hurts' or 'Many Rivers To Cross'.

Cher recently opened up about plans for the new concert's stage set. She said, " 'Team Cher' is coming to Malibu to show me new ideas for the set - magic, flying - oops! That's too much." Once the star witnessed the ideas, she said, "There's so much magic, I am breathless."

She continued, "The whole set/look changes for every song - I mean complete changes." You only have to look at Cher's last two tours to know that an elaborate set can be expected.

Cher originally hinted at a May or June debut for the upcoming tour. However, Cher has since revealed that the shows will start in September.

The tour will kick-off in North America, in Kansas. It can be easily predicted that the tour will visit many other US states including New York, which has been visited during all of her last four tours.

The places she visits will be determined by the number of concerts she wishes to perform (Cher's 'Love Hurts Tour' only had 24 dates as it was cut short reportedly due to illness. Her longest was of course her 326-date 'Living Proof: The Farewell Tour'). She has confirmed Brazil and the United Kingdom as places she will definately be touring.

From all the way back to her 1979 'Take Me Home Tour', every Cher tour has visited two locations; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and London, England. Cher's new tour will surely visit these locations.

Finally, anyone concerned about ticket costs will hopefully be satisfied; Cher said, "I don't believe in expensive tickets." If evidence is needed, Cher concluded, "Look at my last two tours."

  3. Of course I am thrilled and delighted and all that... but my fear is that SOMEHOW people may say, "I've seen her. O know the songs. What's new?" and it may not end up being the SMASH she is hoping for... I never want to have her end up flopping, how tormented I was as a teen to never see her win awards for her songs, listening to people's unkind chatter as her fan from age 10 - we withstood the nasty jokes and insults about her music. I never found any of them to be true.. her music as a pop diva were as good and better then most being released at that time. MEN: The main music reviewers of the time down played her and I never want that to happen again. I was hoping for a new movie or two (after Burl) and maybe two cd's before she hit the trail again.

  4. SEPT of 2012.... Cher hits the tour road... and unlike many MALE acts she doesn't need to have others join her to pull in the people. Like Jesus she has her own Faithful Followers who always find her.

  12. I was 8 years old at the Believe Tour and then I was 13 at the Farewell Tour I am now 21 and so proud and beyond elated that I have had the unique opportunity of being inspired and lead through so many wonderful experiences with her music and her persevering attitude, she just makes me feel ok to be me and I do not care how old she gets or how much mainstream pop culture may not like her music but I will relish in it, I mean pop music now is just stupid, lack-substance, and down right emotionally stunted, and as in her song "After All" I think she knew it was always going to be her and her fans. I love you Cher thank you for the magic you have provided my entire life. LOL I used to dance around in my moms cher halloween wig in the living room, I was 8 years old, then I found some red tinsel wigs to wear to her farewell tour, and I have made quite a bit of money of impersonating her in drag, I will be at this tour!!!!
