Fan Questions Answered! Cher Sick Of Being Asked "Do You Believe In Life After Love?"

Superstar Cher stopped by social networking site Reddit to answer a wide range of questions from her legions of fans:

Q: What's your favorite Bette Davis movie? Are you a fan of hers?

A: I'd have to turn in my gay icon card if I wasn't a huge fan of hers. I just watched the night before last 'Now, Voyager'. I can't remember the name of it but I like the one when her husband was an anti-fascist, and they came to America. She doesn't have a huge part in it, and as I understand it, she did it as a favor to the actor who starred in the film with her because he had done the part on Broadway - because no one knew him, the only way he could star in it was if she did the film. But I loved it. I love the shooting scene in 'The Letter'.

Q: What happened when you and Meryl Streep saved a girl from being mugged?

A: Well - Meryl had just had Mimi and wanted to get some ice cream, she was just telling me what a safe neighborhood it is. It's little Italy bordering on Chinatown. We walked around the corner, there was this huge guy ripping this girl's clothes and trying to get her purse. Meryl just took off and starting yelling running towards them. Then I did too. The guy got frightened and started running towards us!
I thought, "Great, we saved the girl and now we're going to get killed." When we got to the girl, she was completely shaken up. Her dress was ripped and she was crying. We kind of patted her, and we started talking to her, and we asked her if she needed help going anywhere or doing anything.
She said she was a singing waitress. Then she started screaming "Oh my god I was just saved by Meryl Streep and Cher!". Then we looked over and there were two men standing there and they didn't do anything. These two big asshole men just watched her.

Q: Do you still hate Madonna?

A: Madge, no. Actually I don't. I never hated her, I just thought she was a bitch. Actually I quite respect her.
Actually I think Madge might be one of the most amazing artists I've known. I don't like everything she does, for sure, but she is always riding the crest of the wave. She always saw trends WAY before anyone else, and had great videos.
So, besides saying "WTF if MDNA", I'm fine with it.

Q: What happened to 'The Greatest Thing' with you and Lady Gaga?

A: She didn't like it. Actually, we should have been in the same room. It could have been better, if we'd worked on it more, it could have been good enough to put out. I think it's a really great song, I love the song, and I'm extremely sorry that it didn't come out.
I'm sorry that the idiot who leaked it leaked the wrong version. I'd never even heard that version.

Q: Hi Cher! If you had to pick one other artist to do a duet with, who would it be?

A: Bruno Mars. Or P!nk. Or Merle Haggard. I can't forget Merle Haggard. Or if he was really, really good, Blake Shelton !

Q: Do you still not know how to order pizza? Do you make Kathleen's people order pizza for you?

A: Oh gosh, well, I know how to do other things. Kathleen can't do it either! But I can run around in high heels for two hours being adorable.

Q: Hi Cher! A friend asked me to ask you if you were afraid of ghosts! Are you?

A: Absolutely not! I love ghosts. I actually think that Sonny makes a light go on. I have a beautiful chandelier that he makes the light go on when it is impossible, there is no power on. I love ghosts, I prefer ghosts to some people.

Q: Hey Cher! What's the question you have been asked most, and do you want to be asked about?

A: The question I'm asked most is "Do I believe in life after love?", and if no one ever asks me that again, I'd be a happy camper.

Q: What is the best and worst part about being Cher?

A: The worst part is no privacy.
I don't know what the best part is. I'm not sure if this is the best part, but I don't give up. I don't give up and I have a really good sense of humor.
You know what else is really great, is I get to go everywhere and meet different kinds of people. Like I just woke up one morning and decided I was going to Katmandu. That opened up a completely new life with great new friends.

Q: What's your favorite story involving you being a Christ-like figure to the gay community?

A: Oh my god there are so many. I can't pick just one. I'm gay catnip.

Q: Do you have any regrets?

A: Of course I do. You can't really dwell them on them because you just become paralyzed. You have to go on and resolve to do better. Just beating up on yourself doesn't do you any good or I'd be black and blue. It's not a Buddhist way to do things. You have to be kind to yourself in order to be a better person for everyone else.

Q: 100-ish years old... And still rocking and looking like you're in your 30s! Can't wait for the tour... What's the setlist looking like? Hints?

A: Sure, after two hours of hair and makeup!!!
I want to put new songs, but I know people want to hear old songs. I know that because when I go to a concert you want to hear the songs you love. Also it will make the show better if some of it is new for me. When you have been doing this for 99.99 years you have to have something fresh.

Q: You are one of the most photographed personalities ever... Is there a particular picture or photoshoot that really captures the essence of who you are?

A: Richard Avedon. Well I've had so many, come one. Norman Seeff. I really liked the Argentinian boys Estudio Machado Cicala Morassut.

Q: What's the most important thing you've learned in life?

A: Don't sweat the small stuff.
And my mother's advice: "if it doesn't matter in five years, it doesn't matter."
Try to do better tomorrow.
Those are the things I know. Two more then I'm done.

Q: If you could turn back time, would you kill Hitler?

A: (Laughs) Do you even have to ask? I'd be in a long line however.

Q: Hello Cher, my queen. Who were your biggest inspirations when you started in music and who are your biggest inspirations now?

A: Well, Elvis was really my biggest inspiration, because my voice was so not girly (first record I put out was called 'Ringo, I love you', and they wouldn't play it because they thought I was a guy). He was the only artist I could really identify with.
Now, I'm inspired by the creativity of young artists today, some young artists today. I just find it fascinating that they don't have to fight to be who they are.
When I was young we got beaten up for looking the way we looked. No one even dared to look different. The Beatles had nice hair cuts and were in suits. The Stones were kind of on the fringe.

Q: Hi Cher! what was one of the most memorable moments of your career, aside from winning your Academy Award?

A: Oh gosh. The scene in 'Mask 'when I find out that Rocky is dead.
That was a particularly, I don't know. It was horrible, but I felt really proud of it afterwards.

Q: Cher When the last time you cried?

A: Last night. I was watching 'Artificial Intelligence' and sobbing.

Q: Hi Cher, What advice do you have for young women in abusive relationships?

A: You have to get out of it immediately. Life is too short. Also, no one can love you if they are abusing you. Those two things can't happen at the same time. Also if you are young you can't see the future. That's dead end, sometimes literally.

Q: I am not gay. I find you absolutely adorable and would enjoy your concerts.
Also, You in those kitchen scenes in 'Moonstruck' were the best ever.

A: I won't hold not being gay against you. Thanks! I love them too. Mrs. Flax was based on my mom, even the costumes and dresses.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: That's an almost impossible question. The thing that popped into my mind is the 'Godfather'. And maybe 'Godfather II' might be better. Actually, Francis gave me as a present the two of them cut together, which is amazing. I think that's what I think is a perfect film, the two of them cut together.

Q: What would be your ideal birthday present?

A: A Balinese house in Tahitii. Or a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity in New York.

Q: Do you enjoy meet-and-greets with fans?

A: I actually do. But I don't usually do them on the road because I come in at the last minute, because if I wait around too long I get too nervous, and then I would just do a runner off the stage. If you don't, you don't get out of the parking lot. You have to get to the next city in time to sleep. After all, 100 years old, you need your beauty sleep. Usually I meet people in the town that I am playing in by accident. I do meet cranio-facial kids, or Make-a-wish or kids with special problems I find out about it. I can't put on a show, and do hair and makeup, and do meet-and-greets all the time.

Q: Are you planning to add more dates to the Dressed to Kill tour if it goes well? Or do you think March-July will be it for you?

A: If it goes well, of course I well. I have to see how I do, I mean how well I do on stage. I'm used to a pretty high standard, and I haven't done it in a long time, so I'm not going to do more of something that I'm not doing great.

Q: What is your favorite/least favorite song on Closer to the Truth?

A: If you'd asked me this about any other album, I'd have an answer immediately. This album is different. I love 'Favorite Scars' and 'Red'. I don't have a least favorite one. They are like children. Depends on what time of day.

Q: You always credit Sonny with "creating" the persona of Cher. Where do you think you would be now if he hadn’t come into your life?

A: When I met Sonny, I was a 16 year old girl. Totally scattered energy. I've been Cher since I was 3. But he focused the energy, but I have no idea. I might be a bank robber. Or Editor of French Vogue.

Q: What kind of eyeshadow/glitter/glitter glue do you use? It always looks so good (like on Letterman the other night). And what products do you use to keep your hair long and not frizzy?

A: Okay the other night on 'Letterman' I used Urban Decay. Gina B used Urban Decay. The Urban Decay glitter comes in a wand that looks like mascara, but when you pull out the thing it looks like a paint brush, and it's really good. And we glued some stones with Duo adhesive, it's eyelash glue, little sparkly stones. This new shampoo I'm using is really good. I just started a new shampoo that I like a lot. Because they changed the formula of a shampoo that I've used my whole life but they changed it. I'll get back when I look it up, I don't know how to spell it. Which isn't my biggest problem, it's just one of my problems.

Q: Which movie did you enjoy making the most?

A: Maybe 'Moonstruck' because we never felt like we were working. We were a family and we weren't acting. I never felt like I was acting.

However, MGM hated the film and they didn't want to put it out. They said it had no appeal to the audience. They only released it because the movie they decided to release tanked, and we were the only film they had.

Q: Did you know that when I saw you performing 'You haven't seen the last of me', I quit anti-depression pills? I was 17. Just thank you, Cher.

A: Well, that's more than you can ever hope for. That makes me really really happy. I'm flabbergasted. That's the second time I've used that word in the last day and I haven't used it in 25 years. When you sing a song, you never think it's going to have anything close to that type of reaction.
That song really has a hold on me. I've said this before but it really sums up my whole life in this business.

Q: Will you marry me? I think it would be a great marriage! I'm gay, so we could totally go shopping together, scope out hot men, cheat on each other and still be able to come home at night to talk about it, then just cuddle! Haha. Hopefully this gave you a good laugh.

A: It's funny. Depends on what your shoe size is!!

Q: No idea what to even say here to be honest! My name's Amy, I'm 26, from Glasgow, Scotland and I've been listening to your music and watching your movies for as long as I can remember. The first album I ever bought was Believe when I was 12 and by the time I was 16 I'd collected every single CD and DVD and a few records lol... I don't really have any questions I just want to thank you for being there for me through my many ups and downs over the years. I really hope you bring the tour back to the SECC or at least somewhere in the UK.

A: Hmmmmh. What a bright discriminating girl you are!
No, no kidding. It's amazing, you just don't go around thinking that you make any difference to anybody, in a deep way, and it's unbelievably gratifying when someone tells you a story like this.

Q: Cher, your support of the GLBT community is amazing, and I have always felt a connection to you and your music despite being told that I was too young to be a fan of your music in middle school.
What was your reaction, as a parent, to having a transgender child? What can other parents do to support their children who identify as transgender or as members of the GLBT community in general?
Thank you for taking the time to answer questions! You are an inspiration.

A: Well - I'm not sure if it's scary to all parents. What I've realized, just lately, in the beginning I think I was afraid of losing a child before I got the new one. Of losing the old one before I got the new one. But we have such a great time now, and I realize that there is no loss. In the beginning, you're just not sure. As parents, it's a little bit scary. Maybe, what people need to do is just CHILL and not be frightened. It's not all about you, or it wasn't about me.

Q: I saw the diagram of the tour stage, looks awesome! What kind of production can we expect?!

A: Then you have more info than I do, because I have just recently seen them.
They can expect a Cher show!

Q: what do you love the most about your CherCrew?

A: Just that they are so supportive of me and have been since the beginning and they are so supportive of each other which I really appreciate.
