Cher Death Hoax on Twitter

CherCher became the victim of a Twitter death hoax as "RIP Cher" became a trending topic worldwide.

Celebrity death hoaxes have become extremely common on Social networking site Twitter. Top stars such as Mick Jagger, Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber, Jim Carrey, Rihanna and even the US President Barack Obama have become the victims of such hoaxes. Now, legendary entertainer Cher has now joined the list.

A rumour that Cher had died spread across Twitter just hours ago, seemingly thanks to one particular user who tweeted "RIP Cher" and more on the subject. One user, or even perhaps the same person, even went as far as creating a false 'CNN' account which tweeted, "Cher, the singer, dies aged 65". Many people believed it to be a real 'CNN' report, leading them to accept the statement as truth.

'RIP Cher' as a trending topicWithin twenty minutes, "RIP Cher" had become a worldwide trending topic, as people started commenting on the subject, including tributes to Cher.

Most Twitter users who had believed the false rumour soon realised that they had been tricked but the phrase still kept on trending. Some Titter users described the hoax as "sick".

Cher, who has not tweeted since the 22 January, has not yet commented on the subject. Just remember the saying, "No publicity is bad publicity".

  3. I'm so glad she's ok. When Sonny passed away all my friends called me to see if I was ok. If it had been Cher , all my friends would have raced to my house to see if I was still alive. Love you Cher!!!!!
