Dangerous Times: Cher Asked For Extra Body Armour For Dagestan Trip

Cher
Cher asked for "extra bulletproof vests" for last month's trip to Dagestan, Russia.

At the very start of last month - on 1 June - Cher made a trip to Dagestan, Russia to perform a mini-concert featuring some of her biggest hits for a children's charity.

Before she left her L.A. pad to head for Russia, hordes of her fans tweeted their concerns to her about her upcoming trip to Dagestan - which is a hotspot for terrorist attacks. Maybe those tweets, as well as the fact that the 67-year-old music legend saw about the attacks on news channel CNN, led to Cher asking for "extra body armour" to the Russian Republic of Dagestan.

Cher of course headed there to perform at the grand opening of the reconstructed stadium of football/soccer team Anzhi Makhachkala - who's chairman Konstantin Renchukov today revealed that a wary Cher asked for extra body armour for the trip; "Cher was supposed to be coming for the Anzhi-Arena opening. I know her and her lawyer personally. A few days before, I got a load of SMS messages - 'What's going on there?' CNN was showing news about a string of terror attacks in the region. They asked, 'Could we have a couple of extra bulletproof vests? Are there metal detectors for the fans entering the stadium? Has this event been heavily promoted?"

Chairman Renchukov then got a phonecall from the football club's owner Suleiman Kerimov who reuested him to accompany Cher from the airport to the stadium.

Thankfully, Cher arrived at the stadium in perfect condition and the concert went on without a hitch - and Cher (of course) gave one hell-of-a-show to the crowd at the fundraising stadium grand-opening, belting out 'Believe', 'If I Could Turn Back Time' and other classics.
