On her Twitter account, Cher wrote: “’Im tired & still have to study song 4 tomm.” Publication HORNET reports that when they saw that tweet, they assumed she was referencing her tour or Mamma Mia 2. But then another tweet she sent out indicates it’s something even bigger in the works: new Cher music.
“Songs coming along well, but dont want to jinx it. Have worked every night 2-3 HRs. Have done 4,” Cher tweeted.
Closer to the Truth was the last album Cher released. Preceded by single Woman's World, and including eventual-UK Top 40 hit I Hope You Find It, it dropped Sept. 20, 2013, and was distributed by Warner Bros. She began planning the project in 2011, shortly after her appearance in the movie Burlesque and the conclusion of her residency show at Caesars Palace. Work on the album continued for two more years. That album was initially planned to be pop rock-oriented, but Closer to the Truth ended up primarily a dance music-inspired record.
Cher has had a total of 15 number one hits and a total of 33 top 10 hits on the Billboard charts. Her career as a recording artist spans six decades, and she’s the only artist (counting her duet with Sonny on “I Got You Babe”) to have a number one single on a Billboard chart in each of those six decades. (This happened when “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” reached number one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart the week of Jan. 19, 2011.)
If it’s released as an album, this new Cher music would be her 26th studio album. Fans obviously began to freak out at the idea. One (@believegussg) tweeted: “We want new songs!!! Your voice is beautiful, you can play whatever you want. New album, new songs!”
