Cher's 1982 Flick 'Come Back To The 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean' Available To Pre-Order On Blu-ray

1982 film 'Come Back To The 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean' will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD on 18 November, and is available to pre-order on the former format now.

Back in 2012, 'Cher News' reported that Mark Patton, one of Cher's co-stars in 'Come Back To The 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean', had revealed that the 1982 movie was "getting ready" to be released on DVD for the very first time.

Later that year, a source told 'Cher News' that the DVD had been delayed due to "music rights". That same source told us that "the release date has been given and then cancelled many times."

After a long period of silence about its status, it has been revealed that the DVD and Blu-ray will be released in November this year and that the Blu-ray release is now available to pre-order from Amazon.com (here).

The new release of the movie comes to us from Olive Films whom boast that the movie features "an all-star cast including: Academy Award winner Sandy Dennis (Whos's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Indian Runner), Academy Award winner Cher (Silkwood, Moonstruck, Burlesque, The Witches of Eastwick), Academy Award nominee Karen Black (Five Easy Pieces, Nashville, The Great Gatsby), Academy Award winner Kathy Bates (Misery, Primary Colors, About Schmidt)", and was "directed by seven time Academy Award nominee Robert Altman (The Player, M*A*S*H*, Gosford Park, Short Cuts, Nashville).

Highlighting Cher's Golden Globe nomination for the film, Olive Films also offered us some information about the film's background and storyline: "After directing a celebrated New York stage production of Come Back To The 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean, legendary filmmaker Robert Altman gave the play the full cinematic treatment. Actresses Sandy Dennis, Golden-Globe-nominee Cher, Karen Black, and Kathy Bates all reprised their stage roles, and the results are a magical convergence of theatre and film.

"A group of James Dean devotees reconvene at their teenage hangout, a rural Texa drugstore, twenty years after the death of their beloved idol. But much has changed in the intervening years, and the reunion provides them one final opportunity to expose the secrets and heal the motional wounds that have lingered among them for two decades."

The independent U.S. distributors add that, "This special edition includes an exclusive videotaped interview with playwright and screenwriter Ed Graczyk, who recalls the evolution of the play and its turbulent journey from stage to screen."

blu-ray.com has stated that the cover art seen above is "temporary", and thus may be changed before release.

'Cher News' has contacted Olive Films to find out if the DVD and Blu-ray will be released outside of the United States.
