Cher Left Heartbroken As Bob Mackie Declines Costume Designer Job on 'Dressed To Kill Tour'

CherCher has announced that her costume designer of 40 years will not be able to create outfits for her upcoming tour.

Cher's final tour, entitled 'Dressed To Kill Tour' after a track on her new album 'Closer To The Truth', will début in just nine days' time. However, the legendary diva has delivered the news within the last hour that long-time costume designer Bob Mackie is unable to create the highly-anticipated outfits for the set of concerts.

The 'I Hope You Find It' singer – who is currently in Arizona for the first stop of the 49-date tour – tweeted,  “The show looks insane. Desert is rough on my throat. Dancers' costumes are gorgeous. I, on the other hand, have a problem. I was putting off telling you something that has broken my heart. The man who made all my costumes since 1972 decided that he couldn't do my last tour.”

The distraught diva has a partnership with Bob Mackie that dates back to 'The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour' and all the belly-baring beaded outfits that she donned in her following solo series 'Cher'. He designed her (in)famous 1986 Academy Awards Mohawk outfit as well as the one that she wore to the same awards two years on to be named Best Actress. He also masterminded the barely-there body-stocking in her 'If I Could Turn Back Time' music video outfit that helped it to become one of the most iconic music videos of all-time. Naturally, Mackie also designed the majority of the costumes that she has sported on her tours.

She tweeted, “No matter how disappointed any of you are. You don't know my grief. I'm sure that Bob can't know how much I miss him. Felt I had to tell you that I'm crying. I tried to convince him to end with me but he had many reasons as to why he couldn't do it. Too many obligations. Not enough time to even do one.”

The enduring icon – who scored her 25th Billboard Adult Contemporary Top 20 hit today - concluded, “Thank God I have a lovely man and wonderful designer! Hugh Durant. He is talented and brave. We will persevere.”

Update: An equally upset Bob Mackie has since responded to the news via his Official Facebook page: "Nobody wanted to design this last tour more than I did! I am sick about it. My professional and business commitments were just too great. There simply was not enough time to give this wonderful project the proper amount of care and attention it deserves. After all these years of collaborating, it is like turning down your own little sister, and how many guys have a little sister like Cher?”

Short shares:
  • Billboard have premièred the Tracy Young remix of Cher's "latest single" 'I Walk Alone'.
  • Billboard has ranked Cher's 8 March tweet "I would KISS Putin's feet in Red Square at 12 if he'd let Ukrainian people be FREE!" as one of their "Top 10 Quotes of the Week".

  8. Does anyone else find it odd that Cher's team hasn't dealt with this costume issue much sooner? The Dressed to Kill Tour begins in less than a week. I would have thought the costumes would have been designed, made, and finally fitted months ago.

  9. Bob Mackie knew of this tour many many many months ago. CHER IS his biggest client and very very very longterm pal. She loves him! This is a bit odd to me since I cannot see how Bob is that busy he could not even oversee someone else making her costumes. Oh well, whatever! Her costumes on her last couple of shows were bulky at times and I did not get why Bob put her in bulky things since she CAN wear sheer so well. Hopefully a new designer will do things very flattering.
